How to use soil for carnivorous plants

Using the mix is very easy! Start by removing as much of the old soil as possible. Gently squeeze the pot while holding it sideways to loosen the plant. Rinse the roots under lukewarm tap water to remove any remaining bits and debris.

Also, remove any dead leaves that may still be on the plant using scissors. Now your plant is ready for fresh soil for carnivorous plants. Place a thin layer of carnivorous plant soil at the bottom of the pot.

Place the plant in the pot and slowly fill it with carnivorous plant soil, filling the sides as needed. Ensure that the point where the roots meet the plant is just covered with the carnivorous plant soil.

Gently pat the potting mix for carnivorous plants into the pot. Be sure to water the potting mix thoroughly after repotting, as this helps the soil and roots to establish themselves.

Why the soil works for carnivorous plants

The added vermiculite and sphagnum moss keep this mixture moist for a long time, giving you more time to water your beloved carnivorous plants. The added sand helps to weigh the plant down. Carnivorous plants typically don't have very large root systems, which makes them susceptible to being uprooted.

The original habitat of carnivorous plants

Carnivorous plants have diverse habitats, but they almost always consist of nutrient-poor, very moist soils. Common locations include bogs, bodies of water, rocky areas, and swamps. They obtain virtually no nutrients from the soil. Therefore, this mixture contains no fertilizers.

How to care for carnivorous plants

Carnivorous plants prefer full sun, so place them in a sunny spot in your home. The soil should be kept consistently moist. A good tip is to place the pot in a bowl or saucer filled with water so the plant can absorb water as needed. Feeding insects to your plants is not necessary, but it can promote growth.
